ARCTICAI crossed the Arctic Circle in the winter of 2001-02. Went by train and boat to the Lofoten Islands from Oslo. I don't think of the Arctic as being the Arctic unless you're there in the winter. I can see wildflowers and tundra in many places, at lower latitudes, but to travel in the four-hour golden hour of the Arctic winter is to see a world in deep sepia, lushly tinted. Colors are different, and the air and wind punish any lazy thinking; I struggled up a frozen waterfall without gloves in Iceland, and then cursed for ten minutes frying to film, my jaw and fingers frozen numb. Gallery up now: ARCTIC GOLD: Shots from the Icelandic Twilight Coming Soon: PUFFIN BOREALIS: Chasing Birds and Auroras
